We are only just into the academic year, yet the Team Sussex Formula Student team for 2017 are already making great progress with their car. Here is a little insight from their first Newsletter…
Say hello to Sussex Racing’s 2017 team!
We are proud to present the Mobil 1 Sussex Racing team for 2017, and are made up of 4th year MEng students from Mechanical, Computer, and Electrical Engineering disciplines. The 2017 Sussex Racing team is one of the most diverse to date, with 10 Mechanical and 2 Electrical Engineers as well as a Computer Engineer.
Our Team is led by Chris Charles, supported by Chief Engineer Luke Rondel, and Commercial Director Seb Clarke. They have shadowed the 2016 team learning the details of the competition, providing Sussex with continuity. Each member of the team brings their own unique talents, as well as industrial experience both in and outside of their respective degrees.

Our first visit to Q-Leisure Go Karting track
In order to begin preparing ourselves for Silverstone 2017, we’ve already began conditioning our drivers with our readily available SR16 vehicle at Q Leisure’s outdoor Go Karting track.
This year we’re really excited to welcome one of our 3rd year Mechanical Engineering students Chris Waldock as one of our Silverstone drivers. Chris has a strong history of competitive Go-Karting; including 3 seasons in a national championship competition between 2008 to 2010 called EasyKart, and competing in the world finals in 2009.
Alongside our primary driver Chris, we are also currently timing our other team members in order to find our best four drivers ready for Silverstone!
As always we really appreciate the help from Q Leisure, and we look forward to seeing them again soon for more driver conditioning. We also hope to take our new SR-17 vehicle for testing early in 2017!
