Second place finish for Mobil 1 Team Sussex at Silverstone

Mobil 1 Team Sussex – the University’s Formula Student team – claimed a fantastic second-place finish in the UK in the endurance race at this year’s competition.

Formula Student is an international competition, run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), which challenges university students to design, build, develop and compete as a team with a single-seat racing car.

Team Sussex ranked second highest in the UK  in the endurance event, which involves a race over 22km in distance including one driver change.

As part of the competition, the car, driven by Team Leader, Matthew Mammana and Vehicle Integration Team Leader, Matthew Hamer was also judged in a number of other categories, including cost and sustainability, design and fuel efficiency.

More than 100 other teams took part in the annual competition, which was held at the Silverstone motor racing circuit in Northamptonshire between 3-7 July

Team Sussex consists of a diverse combination of around 50 third- and fourth-year students from the automotive, mechanical and electrical engineering degrees as well as a small number of product designers and media students.
